Heritage Series 1

The Heritage Series 1 covers 115 years and 4 generations of fire service heritage of one family from 1900 continuing to today. Pictured here is the “crew” of Columbus Ohio’s Engine House 4 in 1924 including Joe Johnson the first in the long line of firefighters.

Heritage Series 1 – 1st Generation “A”

Before motorized vehicles, Columbus, Ohio firefighters responded with horse drawn apparatus. Here is the very tall Joe Johnson, of Park Hotel fire frame, standing on a ladder wagon (left). Note the chief’s carriage on the extreme right with a matched set of white horses.

Heritage Series 1 – 2nd Generation “A”

On May 15th, 1932 this photo was taken of the crews of Engine House 7. The driver of the vehicle on the left is William Perry Fouty, the son-in-law of Joe Johnson.

Heritage Series 1 – 2nd Generation “B”

Heritage Series 1 – 3rd Generation “A”

In 1948 Wesley Adams, (front row center / 9th from the right.) became a member of the first recruit class of the Columbus Ohio Fire Department after World War II.

Heritage Series 1 – 3rd Generation “B”

Adams soon became a Pump Operator (Engineer) shown here with his 1941 1,000gpm Seagraves out of Engine House 10 Columbus, Ohio.

Heritage Series 1 – 3rd Generation “C”

Wes Adams, became one of the first members of the CFD Fire Prevention Bureau circa 1951.

Heritage Series 1 – 3rd Generation “D”

At age 95 Adams still served as an admin volunteer at the Boca Raton (FL) Fire Department.

Heritage Series 1 – 4th Generation

Pete Adams, Asst. Chief Mt. Lakes N.J. Fire Dept, 1988 – Joe Johnson’s Great-grandson.
